Science Night will once again take place on the last Friday in the September on 25th, and will have a varied program in which everyone will find something for themselves. Visitors can expect a variety of experiments, demonstrations, presentations on sometimes surprising topics, projections, workshops, and interesting lectures. The entire program is for free. The main theme of this year literally invites curiosity, namely the Communication.
The national coordinators of Science Night for 2026 are the University of Chemical Technology in Prague and Palacký University in Olomouc in cooperation with Charles University, the Czech University of Technology in Prague, the Czech University of Life Sciences in Prague, the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, and the University of Economics in Prague.
“We humans are social beings and without communication we would not survive. And the same applies to the world of science. Without communication we would not be able to research, share our discoveries or pass on our experiences. Our entire world depends on communication. That is why we are happy that this year we can also involve non-profit organizations that help people with disabilities in the Night of Science. Together we are looking for ways to make science accessible to people who may not be able to perceive it in the same way as most of us,” says Dana Kardová from the University of Chemical Technology in Prague, a member of the team of national coordinators of the Night of Science.
The secondary schools, universities, libraries, planetariums, scientific institutes, museums, science centers and private entities are involved.
The Night of Science, which until 2025 was held under the name Night of Scientists, was visited by over 120 thousand visitors last year. This year, the Night of Science will also include various schools, museums, observatories, planetariums, science centers and other research institutions. But you will find most of it at public universities, which also coordinate the Science Night. This year, the Czech Science Night will once again go abroad. And this is thanks to the Czech Centers, which will provide their premises for the event. The program will be prepared for visitors, for example, in Belgrade, Bucharest and Rome.
This year, over 140 institutions and technology companies are involved in the program, which is preparing the program in 75 cities.
Interesting topics are scattered throughout the Czech Republic and selected cities abroad.
“The topic of communication will appear in the contributions from various perspectives. Without exaggeration, we can learn a lot about the communication of insects, mushrooms or fruit trees, as well as the technologically advanced communication of the most modern drones,” says Ondřej Martínek from Palacký University in Olomouc, a member of the team of national coordinators of the Science Night.
Czech Science Night is once again part of the European Researchers’ Night, a pan-European event supported by the European Union with the aim of connecting science and society and increasing young people’s interest in science. This year, Science Night was also supported by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and the Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions program with the WAAITT project under the HORIZON-MSCA-2025-CITIZENS-01 call.
